I’ve moved on now to look at how my title font will work with the fonts I’d like to use for the stories. I need this font to be easy peasy to read. I have chosen to use Arial fonts as they allow me to have big bold parts and smaller parts without looking like completely different fonts. Here is how al the fonts work together.
More on fonts – aren’t you lucky!

December 15, 2009 by hcarterchsOnce again I have been looking at fonts and trying to decide which one to use. I have decided to use a handwriting style that will stand out for my title. These are the possibilities.
I then printed this test sheet out to see how it would look on paper. The first three are very exaggerated and classic which could make it hard to read. The fourth is quite simple but classic and curvy at the same time I feel this font could work well with my magazine. The fifth is very clear to read however I feel it is too simplistic and doesn’t have a big classical impact. It looks more like a primary school teacher’s handwriting. The sixth is again very clear and flows nicely however may also be too simplistic for my magazine. The last stands out well and is very clear it flows well and looks very classical. I think I will focus on using either the fourth font or the last font. I will try each one with a font that will be suitable for the rest of the magazine. I will also try both fonts on the picture and in the colour I eventually choose to use if I don’t make a decision before I take my photographs.
Fonts
December 15, 2009 by hcarterchsToday I have been messing around with fonts and trying to decide which one to use.
I like the first one because it is very classical and flows nicely which will fit with my magazine however I’m not sure if it stands out to have a big impact on the reader. The second one is very bold and will stand out however I feel it is maybe too bold for my genre. The third one is actual musical notes which cause the text to be unrecognisable however I could potentially use it as a logo throughout the magazine.
I will continue looking for fonts. I may choose a basic font that is very clear and can be used throughout the whole magazine. This would replicate the style used by Good Housekeeping (see bellow). It means that I don’t have to juggle multiple fonts and can show variation by changing the colour used.
Poses
December 11, 2009 by hcarterchsFor my cover I will use quite a formal shot and maybe use an instrument in it. Then for my double page spread I will do more of an “at home” shoot so we can see what she gets up to at home and she can be relaxed in her own environment. I will have her sat on the sofa or in her bedroom. I might also do a shoot with her sat at the piano and then position some of her family pictures on the top of it so we get more of a view of her family life and her home.
Name
December 11, 2009 by hcarterchsI have decided to use the name Concerto for my magazine as it has a strong and obvious link to music as well as being catchy. It has classical connotations which will fit with my magazine ideas. I will use my busking pictures to talk about whether classical music should be used within busking or not. The busking pictures will only be used in the contents page to add more depth to the details to it.
I will pick my colour scheme when I decide which picture to use on the cover. The scheme will be a contrasting colour as the dress being worn in the picture so that everything fits together. I have seen this done in magazines such as Good Housekeeping.
Photo shoot ideas
December 1, 2009 by hcarterchsI really like this image because the model is very ladylike and formal whereas playing the trumpet is not really considered as a ladylike thing. She goes against stereotype. I would like to use an image like this in my magazine without the background as I know that I will not be able to find a backdrop like this locally. I will ask Louise to wear a formal dress like this and pose with her instruments. If she can it would be good for her to wear a few different dresses as in the magazine this picture was featured in there is a big interv iew with this lady and she is wearing a different dress in each picture. I may also get Louise to do an informal picture to show how veratile music is and that it isn’t all about dressing up for concerts.
I will conduct a small interview with Louise so I can write it up in my magazine alongside the pictures. I will ask her questions about her musical career, when she started, what she has achieved, what does she enjoy about music, how did she get involved with music as well as some personal questions such as does her music get ion the way of work?

December 1, 2009 by hcarterchsI have decided to use my friend Louise as a model. I will ask her to wear her own clothes and bring a few of her instruments. I will take some pictures of her both playing her instrument and posing with it. I may also take a few pictures of her without an instrument. I will interview her about her musical career so I can use that as a double page spread including some pictures of her that I didn’t use for the cover. On my contents page I might use an image of Louise. I will also use images of Buskers in Central Park so I can use them as a feature. My colour scheme will be based on the colour that Louise choses to wear although I will ask her to wear a bold colour that will stand out. I will use a plain background – probably white or black so that I can insert text around the image and it will stand out. If I can’t get a plain background I will edit it on photoshop so its not a major problem.
I am going to do my shoot over the Christmas Holidays however I am not going to use anything festive in my shoot as I want it to be used anytime in the year. Also because I am only having the image without a background the festive season will not be useful in my work.
